Behind Enemy lines 3: Colombia

maxresdefault-edit

As innocent folks get caught up in the ongoing battle between the Colombian government and FARC guerrillas, a squad of US Navy Seals are sent in to oversee a peace meeting between the two parties.

Led by Lt Sean Macklin (Manganiello), the mission quickly goes awry when a group of armed militants turn up and start gunning down both sides.

Caught in the fray, Macklin’s squad battle their way out – but not without some tragic casualties. Wanted by the authorities who have blamed them for the massacre, the Seals must fight for their lives as they struggle to clear their names.

While there’s very little to link this threequel with the other two instalments in the series, if you’re looking for a straightforward goodies-vs-baddies bullet-fest, you can’t go far wrong.

Manganiello might look like he’d be more comfortable modelling mens undies than crashing through the jungle with a machine gun, but he gets the job done and there’s plenty of explosions to distract from his occasional lapses of charisma.

Likewise, WWE wrestler Mr Kennedy makes up for what he lacks in acting ability by making mincemeat of any unfortunate Colombian who gets in his way and admirably punches out the lines from the mega-macho script.

Fortunately, there’s an accomplished thesp on the team with Platoon veteran Keith David playing the stranded Seals’ embattled commander with his usual flair for enraged authority figures.

Plus, fans of Scarface may recognise Tony Montana’s right hand man Steven Bauer popping his head out of the ‘Where are they now?’ file to play the shady General Manuel Valez.

Not a film that’s going to trouble the brain cells, Behind Enemy Lines 3 is big, dumb fun that should satisfy action aficionados.
